Brooke Kalinec, Counseling Intern

As a Counseling Intern in UTSA’s Clinical Mental Health Master’s program with a background in psychology, I am passionate about supporting teens, young adults, and adults as they navigate life’s challenges. As a first-generation student and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I bring an empathetic and open-minded perspective to my work. My personal experiences with grief, anxiety, financial stress, and family challenges have shaped my desire to help others who are facing similar struggles.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in a humanistic, person-centered framework, with the integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. I am interested in working with concerns such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, and stress management. I strive to create a warm, calm, and collaborative space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their therapeutic journey. I believe therapy should be tailored to each individual’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals as we work together to foster self-awareness, resilience, and meaningful change.

Outside of the counseling room, I enjoy card games, board games, and puzzles; especially when shared with family. I also love reading, crafting, music, and creative writing as ways to embrace my creativity.
